Golf Betting: Rory McIlroy is favoured in Dubai, but 100/1 Scotsman is our man

50 players will face off for the lion's share of the $10 million purse at the DP World Tour Championship this week, and some are looking to topple Rory McIlroy for the Race to Dubai title.

McIlroy became World No.1 again after winning the CJ Cup on the PGA Tour, as he did in 2021. He has now spent 110 weeks at the top of the world rankings in his career.

The four-time major champion hasn't won on the DP World Tour this year despite making eight top 10s in nine starts, including an agonising tied second finish at the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth.

Despite McIlroy's super year which sees him on top of the world again, 3/1 is a difficult price to back in such an unpredictable game. Having said that, he is also a two-time winner of the DP World Tour Championship.

He will tee it up with Ryan Fox in the final group in the first round on Thursday. Fox will be looking for his third win of the season on the Earth Course.

Ahead of the event, McIlroy said Greg Norman should no longer be the commissioner of the LIV Golf Tour, as "nobody is going to talk unless there is an adult in the room."

There are a handful of LIV Golf players teeing it up at Jumeirah Golf Estates this week, but in terms of our betting selections, none of them takes our fancy.

Take a look below at our three golf betting choices for the 2022 DP World Tour Championship.

Shane Lowry - 14/1 (BET365)

Shane Lowry was delighted to win the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth in September. This was his sixth win on the DP World Tour and his first since The Open Championship in 2019. The World No.20 had a solid season on the PGA Tour, coming second at the Honda Classic and back-to-back tied third finishes at the RBC Heritage and The Masters.

Ryan Fox - 25/1 (BET365)

Ryan Fox has had a fantastic season on the DP World Tour. He has won the Ras al Khaimah Classic and the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, as well as coming second at the Nedbank Golf Challenge, the Soudal Open, the Dutch Open and the Horizon Irish Open. He was ranked fourth in stroke average on Tour in 2022 and ninth in driving distance.

Ewen Ferguson - 100/1 (BET365)

Ewen Ferguson has won twice on the DP World Tour in 2022. He won the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters in March and he doubled up at the ISPS Handa World Invitational in August. He was ranked 12th in greens in regulation on Tour and he was ranked in the top 50 in stroke average and driving accuracy. He has finished tied ninth and tied 13th in his last two appearances on Tour, completing a season in which he has become one of the standout players.
