Jordan Spieth endured a nightmare round on Friday at the Sony Open which saw him miss the cut, despite sharing the lead after 18 holes at Waialae Country Club.
Spieth made four consecutive bogeys starting at hole 8 which saw him fall back to 2-under. This mark would've seen him into the weekend in Honolulu if it wasn't for another bogey on 15.
The 29-year-old saw his putt for par horseshoe around the lip in a moment that summarised his round. "That's about right," he said to himself. He became just the second player in four years to miss the cut on the PGA Tour having led through the first 18 holes.
Spieth is the first player in the history of the Sony Open to lead after Thursday and go home after Friday. His 5-over 75 left him on 1-under for the week, one shot from the cutline.
The last player on Tour to lead after the first round and miss the cut was Matt Every at the Arnold Palmer Invitational in 2020, a venue the American had won at twice before.

"Just a bad day. Didn't feel like it was much different. Felt like I had a really bad deck of cards today. Made a couple really - made a couple of bad swings from off the tee," Spieth said.
"Other than that, I didn't play that different. I just ended up a foot into the rough here, right behind a tree here, it was a weird, weird day.
"Left like six or seven putts short. Thought the greens were going to be faster and left six or seven in the heart within a foot short.
"Yeah, this sucks. I mean, I've never led a tournament and missed the cut before. It's not like I wouldn't have replayed anything that I - I made a bad swing; didn't really make any bad decisions.
"Just got the ball in the wrong spots at the wrong places, and out here you just have to be fairway, fairway, fairway."
Joining Spieth on the sidelines this weekend will be Tom Kim. The 20-year-old shot a 69 which took him to 1-over for the week. On Thursday, he almost lost five strokes on the greens which was statistically his worst putting display on Tour.
After rounds of 64 and 65, Chris Kirk leads the way by one shot from the impressive rookie Taylor Montgomery. Kirk is looking to end a 2,791 winless drought on Tour.

Montgomery maintained his position as the most under-par player on the circuit this season in the second round. He made six birdies on his way to a 66 and J.J. Spaun is also enjoying continued form in the new season with rounds of 66 and 64.
The Valero Texas Open champion came tied for fifth at the Sentry Tournament of Champions last week and he has already made five top-25s in seven events in the 2022/2023 season.
