Martin Kaymer FORCED OUT of LIV Golf's $50m team championship in Miami

Martin Kaymer has been forced to withdraw from LIV Golf's season-ending $50m team championship in Miami at Trump National Doral.

LIV Golf confirmed the news via their social media channels. The German has suffered a wrist injury.

Kaymer, 37, a former World No.1 and two-time major winner, is the team captain of the Cleeks GC side.

The winning team this week will split $16m. The favourites to do so are Dustin Johnson's 4 Aces side, who have dominated the team element in LIV's inaugural $255m season.

Kaymer has been replaced in the field by Shergo Al Kurdi. Graeme McDowell, Laurie Canter and Richard Bland are also in Cleeks side.

The German has been praised for appearing level-headed with his approach to joining LIV Golf.

When he joined the LIV Golf Tour, he told Sky Sports:

"I made my choice and I can live with anything that comes my way. I am happy to play golf anywhere in the world, I'm happy to support any tour because I believe in all the tours in different ways.
"If it comes down to this that we are not allowed to play any tournaments then it is what it is."

Kaymer later decided not to take part in the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth on the DP World Tour.

It was an event that he would have usually participated in but he said he did not want to play where he was not wanted.

Of that decision, he said:

"I don't know why I should fly to England, [and] be on the golf course for four or five days where you are not that welcome, I would say."

Just this week Sergio Garcia - who will also be competing at LIV Golf Miami as the Fireballs GC captain - opened up on his withdrawal from the same tournament Kaymer decided to skip.
