Open Championship venues top list of least windy UK courses

Open Championship venues Royal St. George's and Royal Cinque Ports have been ranked in the top five courses with the least wind noise in the UK.

The research was compiled by Katie Ogden, the training manager of ReSound North-West Europe, while urging golfers who live with hearing impairments to purchase the game-changing ReSound One Hearing Aid. The unique design of this item reduces wind noise for avid golfers.

Royal St. George's, the venue that hosted the famous tournament that Collin Morikawa won in 2021, averages 4.8 mph wind at a 10m elevation and 5.6 mph at a 30m elevation.

The Sandwich course has hosted The Open Championship 15 times and the coastal track is home to stunning views across the South-East shoreline.

Royal St. George's is ranked second in courses that create the least wind noise. West Sussex Golf Club tops the rankings as they only receive 4.5 mph at a 10m elevation and 5.3 mph at a 30m elevation.

Royal Cinque Ports, just around the corner from St. George's, is ranked fourth in UK golf courses with the least wind noise, recording 5.1 mph at a 10m elevation and 5.9 mph at a 30m elevation.

The course located in Deal hosted The Open Championship in 1909 and 1920 and they have also hosted the Amateur Championship on three occasions.

Woodhall Spa Golf Club in Lincolnshire is ranked in third position with wind speeds of 4.9 mph at a 10m elevation and 5.7 mph at a 30m elevation.

This course was founded in 1891 and it has been extensively refurbished to a superb standard by well-known course architect Tom Doak.

Making up the top five courses with the least wind noise is Kingsbarns in Scotland, which is known to be one of the most picturesque golf courses in the UK.

With tight greens and undulating fairways, Kingsbarns is ranked fifth with recorded wind speeds of 5.3 mph at a 10m elevation and 6.2 mph at a 30m elevation.
