Ben An took an incredible seven shots from just outside of 80 yards on the par-4 10th when he was in contention to win his maiden PGA Tour title at the Sony Open.
An, who won the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth back in 2015, made a tournament-ending quadruple-bogey eight on the short par-4 10th in the third round at Waialae Country Club.
The South Korean was just one shot off the pace when he made the turn on Saturday but he was soon five shots behind after a trio of flop-shot howlers by the green.
From just 87 yards, An flew the back of the green leaving himself 15 yards to the pin.
He attempted a flop shot with his third shot, but the ball failed to make the green and it took the slope and fell off the green to the right side.
Back in the rough, An attempted the same type of shot but once again failed to make the green, and back came his ball.
Stroke five was not much better. An played another flop shot but the ball caught the fringe and rolled back down the slope and off the green.
An eventually got his sixth shot on the green, but he failed to convert the seven-footer and it all added up to a quadruple-bogey eight.
"Oh what a mess," said commentator Paul Azinger.
"Simple, simple hole."
An went on to recover somewhat on the back nine with three straight birdies from the 14th as he carded a respectable 4-under 66.
But it could have been so much better.
An returned on Sunday for a 67 to finish 12-under par and six shots behind his compatriot and Sony Open champion Si Woo Kim.
Had An just made a par on the 10th hole then he would have finished in third place.
An made $138,000 for his efforts, but had he finished third then he would have scooped $545,000 and some much-needed OWGR points.
His tie for 12th bumped him up 19 spots in the world rankings from 230th to 211th.
