PGA Tour star Tom Kim HOLES OUT for eagle at Tournament of Champions

Tom Kim continued where he left off on the PGA Tour in his first round of 2023 by holing out for eagle on the 6th hole en route to brilliant 8-under 65 at the Tournament of Champions in Hawaii.

Kim, who recently signed a new deal with Nike Golf, split the fairway down the par-4 6th and then spun a wedge shot into the cup for an eagle-two.

The 20-year-old from South Korea would then go on to shoot a superb round of 8-under par, moving him just one shot behind the lead currently set by Jon Rahm, Collin Morikawa and JJ Spaun.

Rahm cracked a joke about last year's champion Cameron Smith, now on LIV Golf, after his opening round.

During the first round broadcast, it also emerged via on-course commentator and former PGA Tour pro Smylie Kaufman that Kim spent Christmas Day with Jordan Spieth's family.

They had Christmas dinner together, and Kaufman said that Kim "went back for fourths".

Former US Ryder Cup captain Paul Azinger, who was sat in the comms box, mentioned how it would prove beneficial for Kim to be spending as much time with three-time major champion Spieth as possible as he continues to adapt to life on the PGA Tour.

With a T47 finish at the 150th Open Championship, Kim earned special temporary membership of the PGA Tour for the remainder of the season.

But he then took things further when landing a first victory on the PGA Tour at the Wyndham Championship in August.

He has since then followed that up with a victory already this season in October at the Shriners Children's Open.

Kim, who also played his way into the International Presidents Cup team last year, is currently ranked 15th in the Official World Golf Rankings.

Earlier this week, Kim told the media how he wants a legacy on the PGA Tour like Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods.

Spieth also had a moment of magic out there in his opening round of 67.
