Shane Lowry Biography

Shane Lowry is an Irish professional golfer who currently plays on the PGA Tour and DP World Tour

Lowry was born on 2 April 1987 to former Gaelic football player Brendan Lowry and Bridget Lowry.

He grew up in Clara, County Offaly. He has one brother, named Alan, and a sister called Sinead. 

Lowry taught himself how to play golf and has spoken of the countless hours he spent at Esker Hills Golf Club fine-tuning his craft. 

Lowry had a distinguished amateur career, the highlight of which came when he won the 2009 Irish Open at County Louth Golf Club on the European Tour, defeating England's Robert Rock in a playoff. 

He turned professional a week after his triumph at his home open. 

In 2012 he captured his first victory on the European Tour when he won the Portugal Masters.

Other highlights in his career include winning the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational, Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship and the 2022 BMW PGA Championship. 

Undoubtedly, the biggest victory of his career came when he won the 2019 Open Championship at Royal Portrush in front of his home fans. 

Lowry also received a captain's pick for the 2021 Ryder Cup

Team Europe lost 19-9 and Lowry went 1-2-0. He lost to Patrick Cantlay in the Sunday Singles. 

Lowry married Wendy Honner in 2016. The couple have two daughters named Iris and Ivy. 

They reside in Jupiter, Florida, where Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy also have homes. 

As of January 2023, Lowry had earned $14,629,476 on the PGA Tour. 

His net worth in 2022 was believed to be in the region of $22m. 

Outside of golf, Lowry is a massive football fan and supports Manchester United.
