The beauty of golf is that there is a stunning variety of clubs to visit in England and many of them are public golf courses that any golfer is able to play on.
The Open Championship is golf's greatest tournament and some courses on the Open Rota will be part of this list of places that you simply must visit in 2022.
You will have heard of the majority of these public golf courses, but when you read about them in detail and discover their qualities, you will be immediately looking to book a game.
As well as the famous links venues of England, many of the best public golf courses are built on land and include natural features such as tall trees and heathland.

Royal St. George's - £125 a round
Put simply, Royal St. George's is one of the best golf courses on the planet. It was opened in 1887 and last summer, it played host to The Open Championship for the 15th time.
It is an immaculate, undulating course on the South East Kent coast. Highlights of the course include the iconic large bunker on the 4th hole and the picturesque par-3 6th hole.
Sandwich is a small but vibrant town that is the site of the venue. If you haven't played here yet, this should be at the top of your list.
Royal Birkdale - £185 a round
Another fantastic Open Championship venue, Royal Birkdale is situated on the North West coast of Southport. It most recently hosted The Open in 2017 when Jordan Spieth picked up the Claret Jug.
Royal Birkdale has held more Championship and International tournaments since World War 2 than any other course in the world. It has previously been ranked in the top 35 golf courses in the world.
Sunningdale, New Course - £300 a round
The New Course at Sunningdale was designed by Harry Colt and opened in 1923. Sunningdale is a world-famous golf venue and it is notorious for its heathland layout.
The New Course and the Old Course have previously been used for The Open Championship International Final Qualifying. The New Course is regarded as the best inland track in the United Kingdom.
St. George's Hill - £225 a round
At St. George's Hill, there are three loops of nine holes and every hole has its own individual character. The holes are undulating and feature heather, silver birch and stately Scots pine.
It was designed by Harry Colt and opened in 1913. The Red, Blue and Green nines offer different challenges which pay tribute to the original design where each hole is visually captivating.
Royal Lytham and St. Annes - £160 a round
Royal Lytham and St. Annes is one of the best-designed links courses in the world. There are 174 pot bunkers plotted around the course which has challenged the best golfers on the planet at 11 Open Championships.
Ernie Els won the tournament when it was last held at the Lancashire venue in 2012. The clubhouse is an iconic building as you look down the 18th hole and it makes the course an easily recognisable landmark.
